High-speed scarification along with high-speed scarification cleanup are the fastest methods available to scarify and clean bridge surfaces and provide a rough and bondable surface for bridge deck overlays!

Not only does this equipment scarify the surface, but a vacuum recovery system, attached to the blast head performs high-speed scarification cleanup of the surface as the work is being done. The vacuum hood recovers the wastewater and debris during the concrete removal. Surfaces that have been previously cold milled can be scarified to remove the micro cracks (bruising) using our High-speed scarification process.

In addition to being 2-3 times faster (and less expensive), High-Speed Scarification with its continuous vacuum system, cleans up after itself.

This surface preparation method is an excellent choice for new bridges requiring a bonded protective concrete overlay or bridges in good condition with minimal or no delamination. This process removes ¼” (6 mm) to ½” (12 mm) of the surface to provide an excellent bonding surface free from surface damage such as microcracks from rotomilling. High-Speed Scarification will also remove surface laitance leaving a surface profile of ¼” to ½”. The method is 2 to 3 times faster than normal scarification equipment and substantially less expensive. Bond test performed on the prepared surface showed failure in the substrate verifying that all microcracks had been removed and the surface was ready for a bonded overlay.
