Project: Rte. 6 Bridge in New Bedford/Fairhaven, MA

“As a first time user of hydro-demolition on a partial concrete bridge deck removal project..I was not only impressed by the time savings versus normal chipping hammers..but also by the professionalism of Rampart Hydro Services.  From initial contact to the completion of the five day project, I knew I was dealing with an experienced, no nonsense contractor.  On that basis, I would definitely consider using Rampart Hydro Services in future contracts.”

Tunnel Rat, Baby Brother to The Mole

February 18, 2011

The TunnelRat is not new but is being readied for a potential project that will require it’s services. The Tunnel Rat can fit into tight spaces where even the Mole cannot venture. It has outriggers with wheels on the ends that help keep it properly positioned in a tunnel. The cutting nozzle is rotated by a hydraulic motor and the whole assembly pulled through the tunnel by a winch.

Meet The Mole: Rampart’s Latest Custom Built Machine

February 16, 2011

The Mole is meant to work in vey tight spaces where our traditional hydro-demo tractor can’t go.

The first project for the Mole will be inside ventilation shafts for the  Ft. McHenry Tunnel in Baltimore, MD. It will be disassembled, lowered through a 36″ diameter manhole and then reassembled. It will remain there for many months.

The pictures below show the Mole as it sprays high pressure water for the very first time.

The Mole is Rampart's latest custom machine. Here it sprays high pressure water for the very first time.

A rainbow effect can be seen as the mole sprays high pressure water on a cold but sunny day in early February, 2011.

Rampart Hydro Part of Texas Asphalt Test

September 10, 2010

The Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) at Texas A & M University recently published Removing Excess Asphalt: Initial test of ultra-high-pressure water blasting a success.

The test was led by Darlene Goehl, P.E., an engineer with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) who sought a cost-effective option for correcting “bleeding” or “flushing.” Bleeding or flushing occurs when excess asphalt binding liquefies and rises to the surface–reducing traction and increasing a vehicle’s braking distance.

The goal of the demo was to remove the gooey excess binding without damaging the aggregate, so a… Read the rest

Rampart Hydro on TV!

September 8, 2010

PennDOT engineers are sold on Rampart’s hydrodemolition.

Television station WJET recently ran a story about Rampart Hydro’s Grubb Road project over I-79 and I-90 in Erie County, PA.

In the report, Brent Hoover, a PennDOT construction engineer, praised our ability to remove the concrete deck with a crew of only two in less time than it would take with traditional methods.

Rampart does the job in less time, which saves money, keeps constructions projects on schedule, reduces driver inconvenience. In fact, PennDOT District Bridge Engineer Bill Koller called Rampart’s hydrodemolition… Read the rest
